The May issue of Bushiroad’s Monthly Bushiroad magazine, published on Friday, features the debut chapter of Naoyuki Kageyama and Akira Itō’s new short manga titled “Cardfight!! Vanguard firstDress.” Kageyama is responsible for the manga’s artwork, while Itō handles the draft. The manga presents a unique story, showcasing the meeting of the characters Yu-yu Kondō and Danji Momoyama, which differs from the plot of the “Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress” anime.

This collaboration between Kageyama and Itō follows their successful run with “Cardfight!! Vanguard Turnabout,” which was serialized in Monthly Bushiroad from August 2020 to December 2022. The fourth digital volume of the manga was published by Bushiroad on January 7, 2023.

Notably, Itō’s original “Cardfight!! Vanguard” manga, which spanned 12 volumes from 2010 to 2017, serves as the official sequel to the franchise. The English version of the manga was released by Vertical.

Previous Work

On the other hand, Kageyama has previously worked on the “Gyakuten Saiban: Sono ‘Shinjitsu’, Igi Ari!” manga series based on the Ace Attorney anime, which was serialized in Shueisha’s V Jump magazine from March 2016 to July 2017. The manga’s third compiled volume was published by Shueisha in September 2017. Kageyama also launched “Gyakuten Saiban Sono ‘Shinjitsu,’ Igiari! Gyakuten Tokkyū, Kita e” in V Jump in September 2018, with a single compiled volume released in March 2019.

Akira Itō, credited as the original creator of the “Cardfight!! Vanguard” franchise, is also known for drawing the “Yu-Gi-Oh! R” manga.
