“Psycho-Pass” is set in a futuristic Japan where the government has established the Sibyl System to combat crime. The system scans the brains and mentalities of citizens to determine their potential or propensity to commit a crime, using factors such as stress levels via a cymatic scan. Individuals with a Crime Coefficient higher than the regulation level of 100 can be arrested, isolated, or terminated permanently, depending on their Crime Coefficient.

The first season of “Psycho-Pass,” written by Gen Urobuchi, follows Akane Tsunemori, a new Inspector who joins Division One, consisting of fellow Inspector Nobuchika Ginoza and Enforcers Shinya Kogami, Tomomi Masaoka, Shusei Kagari, and Yayoi Kunizuka, all of whom are deemed latent criminals by the Sibyl System. The unit is equipped with weapons called Dominators, which work in parallel to the Sibyl System, automatically adjusting their settings based on the individual’s Crime Coefficient. Season 1 revolves around their pursuit of Shogo Makishima, who is determined to be Criminally Asymptomatic despite committing heinous crimes. The first season received critical acclaim for its compelling storytelling, intriguing antagonist in Makishima, and well-built world.

Season 2 served as a direct sequel to the first season, with Akane and her team facing another Criminally Asymptomatic individual named Kirito Kamui. However, it did not match the success of the first season. A third season, featuring a new protagonist named Mika Shimotsuki, was released in 2019, five years after the second season, and received a more positive reception.

Streaming on Crunchyroll.

The first two seasons of “Psycho-Pass” are available for streaming on Crunchyroll, while Season 3 can be found on Amazon Prime Video. Fans can also catch the first two movies on Crunchyroll.

With the release date of “Psycho-Pass Providence” now confirmed for May 12, 2023, fans of the franchise are eagerly anticipating the next installment in this dystopian cyberpunk world.
